CNET's Download.com is a great site for free games and game demos, you can check it out here. A classic game that we recommend you download is called Scorched Earth. If you haven't played it yet, it is very similar to the game Worms. Instead of a worm however, you are given an artillery tank to shoot various weapons into the air at your opponents. Unlike worms, you are unable to change your position, which adds more strategy to the game as you adjust for wind and environmental factors.

This game supports online play against up to 24 opponents, as well as the ability to customize and modify the game if you'd like. The game requirements are very minimal and it will play on even the oldest of computers, be warned however that a few friends of ours have been unable to get it to load for unknown compatibility reasons on there machines. It is only a 42 MB download so if you can't get it to run, you can try our next recommendation.

This free game is very similar to the classic Scorched Earth, compatible with the latest Win32 & Win64 operating systems. Unlike the latest Scorched 3D it is a throwback to the 2D generation, yet despite its graphical limitations (and online play limitations) it is still a very addictive game to play.
